Limiting Beliefs That Are Holding You Back From Starting Your Business & Following Your Dreams
Updated: Jun 4, 2020
I chose this topic because I know of so many people (myself included) who have held themselves back from starting something they are truly passionate about, specifically a business, because of their limiting beliefs!
If I’m completely honest, limiting beliefs still affect and have affected me too.
Hey, I’m only human right?!?!
For example, did you know that I dreamed of building a community on Facebook that would be a place where mums could find support and high-quality information to help them start their business...
... and that I actually wanted to start is about 5 years ago?!?!
Yep, and those dang limiting beliefs kept me from starting it over and over again, year after year.
I would say to myself:
What value could I offer?
I don’t know enough about business to give other people my advice!
Who would even listen to me anyway?
These are just a few of the thoughts that would stop me from starting this group, year after year after year.
But one day I finally quit the negative talk and just decided to launch it anyway.
And by starting The Start-Up Boss Mama Mastermind Facebook Group, it's ignited a passion and desire for me to help more mamas start and launch their own business.
How amazing is that?
Can you imagine if another year went by, another 5 years without starting the group and teaching what I know?
If this story resonates with you then you’ll want to keep reading on, as I’ll be going through 5 different limiting beliefs that are holding YOU back from reaching your own goals and how you can flip it and turn it into a positive.
Limiting Belief No. 01
Who am I to do this?
My question to you is, who are you NOT to do this?
Seriously, you deserve all the happiness and success in the world and it’s your duty and calling to follow your heart. If starting a business is what you’ve always dreamed of, then do it.
I truly believe that you are worthy of EVERYTHING you desire.
So let’s turn the thought of “who am I to do this” and let’s change it to “I am powerful and worthy of anything I desire” - how does that sound?
Incredible, right?

What if my family & friends find out?
This one’s a funny one. Have you ever had thought this before?
Ever say to yourself, “jeez, what if my Aunty Tina, who lives in another state finds out I decided to start a business and follow my dreams?”
Tell me I’m not alone, as this has been one of my thoughts before... and I may or may not have an Aunty Tina who lives in Victoria ;)
But seriously, when you say it out loud, it sounds quite ridiculous doesn’t it? It’s like we want to have success but we’re too afraid to tell anyone, just in case they call us out on it.
Originally, I kept most of my businesses a secret, but after realising that keeping it hidden was holding me back from success, you should have seen how much support and extra business I got from letting my extended family and friends know.
Limiting Belief No. 03
I'm not enough!
I’m not experienced enough. Not talented enough. I don’t have the skills. I don't have the right education. I’m not pretty enough, smart enough, clever enough or funny enough.
I’m not enough, enough...
But guess what?
There will always be someone who has more than you. If we all thought this no-one would ever follow their dreams, right?!?
Believe me, I'm not the most experienced at what I do. I’m not the most talented. I’m not the most educated and I’m certainly not the best at going LIVE inside of Facebook - but guess what I'm still showing up, still providing help, training and information to help you to build the business of your dreams.
Limiting Belief No. 04
It's all been done before.
Yep, it’s true. It has been done before. So what?
Everything (well almost everything) has been done before at some other time, by someone else. But it hasn't been done by YOU!
There is no one like YOU and you are the only person who can say it the way you do, in your voice, with your words, with your message.
More than likely the things you share or create have been done before, but that’s okay as there are people out there that want it from you.
Now if you’re thinking that there’s no space for you and your talents, think again. I believe in abundance and there is more than enough to go around. Not only this, but someone out there is looking for that special something that only you can offer.
So even if you think that your skills, talents passions and offers have been done before, don’t let this hold you back, because your superpower is YOU.
Limiting Belief No. 05
What are people going to think of me?
I find myself asking this question a lot, especially when I start something new. So you’re not alone here.
There will always be people that have an opinion of you, whether you follow your dreams or you don't. But people opinions don’t matter, do you know what matters?
Making money, happy clients and being a good human being.
And I know this can be a hard one, especially when the people that have opinions are people that are closest to you. Generally, the people that have an opinion on what you are doing with your business are usually the ones that don’t understand what you’re doing anyway… no need to worry about these people. Or if it helps, maybe have a chat with them to explain what you’re doing.
The point here is to worry less about what people say or what they think of you and worry more about what you can do to make a difference in this world.
So if you believe you can't do it. You're right.
If you believe you can. You're right.
Just go out there and take a leap, follow your dreams and start your business. Your dream life is just a step outside of your comfort zone.
