How to set & achieve BIG goals for your Etsy shop
So you’re ready to start an Etsy shop in 2021 or you’re ready to uplevel your existing shop and grow in 2021. Well, you are in the right place as today I’m going to be sharing you my GOAL setting method and share some tricks and tips with you that will help you set and achieve your BIG Etsy shop goals.
As we close off 2020 (finally) and start thinking about our goals and plans for the year ahead, it can sometimes make us feel a little overwhelmed. Sometimes even make us feel like they are unattainable or that we’ll never be able to achieve them. But I’m here today to let you know that those BIG goals you have for your Etsy shop are not only possible, but I believe they’re yours for the taking!
So to help you achieve your goals, I’m going to run through a method I use to set achievable goals and then I’m going to actually run through my own goals with you (yes, I’m going to open up behind the curtain and show you what I plan for my 2021). This way you have some inspiration and motivation to go and set goals for yourself.
Now later on in this video, you’ll see me jump onto my iPad where I’ll walk you through how I use the Ultimate Etsy Shop digital planner to set my goals. But you can follow along with me today as I have extracted the goals pages and included them in a PDF document, that you can download for FREE and use alongside with me today. This document you can use on your iPad or you can even print it out and write on it. Whatever suits you.

When it comes to creating a successful business, I believe that goal setting is crucial.
Whether you are the CEO of a multinational company or solo-owner running your Etsy shop, you should create and set yourself goals and objectives with instructions on how you will achieve them. I like to think of goals like the fuel to a flame that can boost your efforts and achieve higher results.
For my own business, there have certainly been times when I’ve created and launched something on the fly, but usually without the proper goal setting in place, generally I end up creating something that I didn’t enjoy working in or my success fell flat because I had no clear focus point or reward to reach.
And this doesn’t only apply to business, but anything you want to achieve in life.
Want to know what the goal-setting strategy is?
S.M.A.R.T Goals
So you may have heard of it before, but the strategy I use is the SMART goals formula. But if you haven’t heard of it before (or just need a refresher), a S.M.A.R.T goal is a way of setting goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely.
Hense SMART!
Let’s go through each step of the process now…
Now first you’ll want to take your general goal, and break it into a SMART goal. So let’s start with this example:
I want to make more sales.
SPECIFIC:
The very first thing you want to do is ensure your goal is specific. SO when you are listing out your goal, try to be specific about what you’re trying to do.
For example, your initial goal is “make money on Etsy” but what you want to be thinking instead is “make a profitable income with my Etsy shop”
Measurable
Next, you want to make it measurable, so you can know definitively if you’ve been successful in reaching your goal.
For example, now you have a goal of “make a profitable income with my Etsy shop” but what you really want is to “generate $4,000 per month with my Etsy shop”
Attainable
Consider whether your goal is actually achievable. Is it reasonable to expect an income of $4,000 per month from your Etsy shop as a beginner? Maybe not…
So let’s change “generate $4,000 per month with my Etsy shop” to “generate $1,000 per month with my Etsy shop”.
Relevant
Now make sure the goal is relevant in the larger vision of your business. What kind of Etsy shop fits your lifestyle and the way you want to earn money. Do you want an Etsy shop selling digital products or physical products? Do you want to create a passive income stream for your business?
Let’s change “generate $1,000 per month with my Etsy shop” and change it to “generate $1,000 per month with my Etsy shop selling passive, digital products”
Timely
Finally, you want to give yourself a real deadline. This way you’ll know exactly what you need to accomplish, and when you want to accomplish them by.
So let’s change “generate $1,000 per month with my Etsy shop selling passive, digital products” and let’s add a deadline to it, so “generate $1,000 per month with my Etsy shop selling passive, digital products within 3-months of starting my Etsy shop”
So let’s break it down…
You’ve now gone from, “make money on Etsy,” and turned it into a specific, clear goal:
Generate $1,000 per month with my Etsy shop selling passive, digital products within 3-months of starting my Etsy shop.
See the difference? Now you can start taking smart actions towards your goal, and you have the added accountability of knowing exactly when you’ve achieved it.
Can you imagine how successful your goals would be if you followed this formula?
Instead of throwing something out there, you now have a formula you can use to create goals that are actually achievable, right?
